Not only is this Rimu native to New Zealand, this particular piece of Rimu has been preserved for centuries in the low oxygen environment of a riverbed.

Much darker than rimu felled today, this tone is evidence of its age and journey.
As if all that didn’t make it rare enough, this particular piece of Rimu also features spalting, a process that occurs only when wood is colonized by certain fungi, causing discoloration and patterns to develop within the wood.
