This board was designed around principles of sacred geometry, its dimensions proportioned to the golden ratio (1:1.618). Every bevel and inlay piece incorporates precise 60° angles—echoing the natural symmetry found in atomic and molecular structures, the building blocks of the universe itself.
Crafted from five species of ancient, river-recovered New Zealand native timber, the board features a natural gradient across a watercoloured length of River Mataī. Formed over centuries of mineral-rich submersion, the tones shift organically from light to dark—the outer edges of the log stained deeply by the elements, while the core retains the warm tone it held the day the tree fell.
Pattern pieces were hand-cut from River Rimu, Ancient River Tōtara, River Kahikatea, and River Northern Rātā—a rare showcase of native species brought together in one harmonious whole.
Sanded to 2000 grit and finished with Rubio Monocoat 2C “Pure” — a VOC-free, food-contact-safe hardwax oil that protects and preserves the timber’s natural tone and texture.
Rubio Monocoat can be cleaned using isopropyl alcohol or Rubio’s own Monocoat soap.
