As Above, So Below
This board honors principles of sacred geometry, with its dimensions proportioned to the golden ratio (1:1.618). Each bevel and pattern piece incorporates 30 degree angles, These angles and numbers have a direct connection to the symmetry observed in atomic and molecular structures, the building blocks of the universe we reside in.
Crafted from five different species of riverbed recovered old-growth native timber, the gradient across the Matai board is a beautiful example of natural water coloring, a gift from centuries of submersion.
Species used for pattern pieces include River Rimu, Ancient River Totara, River Kahikatea, and River Northern Rata, creating a stunning showcase of New Zealand native timber.
Sanded to 2000 grit and finished with Rubio Monocoat 2C “Pure.”
