Crafted to perfection, this bespoke case embodies the essence of luxury and rarity. Inspired by the robust design of a pelican case, Case #8 is my first mono-timber build, handmade from River Rimu.
River Rimu is old-growth native timber that has been naturally preserved for centuries in a low-oxygen riverbed environment. Over time, minerals in the sediment gradually transformed the heartwood, saturating it with deep, amber hues and giving the timber a uniquely warm, expressive grain.
Each component—from the hinges and latches to the gas strut sleeve—is crafted from the same length of River Rimu, ensuring an unparalleled harmony in material and design.
Brass pins offer lasting strength, while neodymium magnets provide a secure yet elegant closure.

Sanded and finished to 400 grit with Rubio Monocoat 2C in "Pure", this case exudes a refined sheen that enhances the natural beauty of the watercolored grain while preserving the timber’s authentic tone.
Rubio Monocoat is a top-quality, VOC-free hardwax oil finish. It is water-resistant and food-contact safe, and can be cleaned using isopropyl alcohol or Rubio’s own Monocoat Soap.
